The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has called for unity in protecting the marine environment during the Regional Marine Pollution Exercise (MARPOLEX) 2022 in Makassar, Indonesia today, 24 May 2022.

PCG Deputy Commandant for Administration, CG Vice Admiral Rolando Lizor Punzalan said all countries are prone to oil spill incidents as ships traverse oceans to support the global economy.

"Oil spill incidents will continue as long as the oceans remain our means of transporting oil efficiently. For this unavoidable nature of oil spill incidents, we gather here in the Regional MARPOLEX 2022 and think of the best ways to eliminate the harmful effects of these incidents," CG Vice Admiral Punzalan expressed.

Ayon sa Commanding Officer ng MRRV-9702 na si CG Commander Patrick Babag, mahalaga ang isinasagawang inspeksyon para masigurong “fully compliant” ang barko sa technical specifications na nakasaad sa kontrata.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) successfully established Command Observation Posts (COPs) on Likas Island, Lawak Island, and Parola Island on 17 May 2022.

According to PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Artemio M Abu, these COPs expand the maritime domain awareness of the PCG in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

"Through these COPs, we improve our capabilities in promoting maritime safety, maritime search and rescue, and marine environmental protection," CG Admiral Abu added.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has confirmed the increasing presence of Filipino fishermen on Pag-asa Island.

During the deployment of the largest Coast Guard contingent in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) from 12 to 14 May 2022, they monitored around 25 Filipino fishing boats conducting fishing activities on the island's vicinity waters.

The PCG checked their condition and provided relief supplies and COVID-19 kits to support their fishing operations.

Nadiskubre ng PCG Sub-Station Delpan ang naturang insidente habang nagpapatrolya. Agad nilang tinawagan ang BFP para humingi ng tulong, habang inalertuhan naman ang mga barko at iba pang sasakyang pandagat na malapit sa pinangyarihan ng sunog.

Liban sa 10 PCG assets na dineploy para apulahin ang sunog at ilikas ang mga residente, sumaklolo rin ang Quick Response Team ng PCG Auxiliary (PCGA) 101st Squadron.
