The Coast Guard District Northern Mindanao (CGDNM), formerly known as the 10th Coast Guard District was activated on 19 April 1999 pursuant to Headquarters Philippine Coast Guard (HPCG) General Orders Number 121 dated 25 March 1999 which is located at 1280 Corrales Extension, Puntod, Port Area, Cagayan de Oro City.

On 18 October 2000, the 10th Coast Guard District was renamed to Coast Guard District Northern Mindanao by virtue of HPCG Memorandum Circular Number 13 considering its geographical location.

CGDNM covers the whole region of Northern Mindanao which includes all the sea lanes and inland waters of Region X, covering the Provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental and Lanao del Norte.

Presently, CGDNM has five Coast Guard stations and 23 Coast Guard sub-stations under its administrative and operational control. The area of responsibility of CGDNM covers approximately 4,674 square nautical miles of maritime area with 530 kilometers of coastline.

CGDNM comprises a total of five provinces, nine cities, 84 municipalities, 11 islands and 1,480 barangays which have 55 piers/wharves with a monthly average volume of 1,355 passenger/cargo vessels and 338,177 incoming and outgoing passengers. It is the homeport of 250 vessels/ships and 25,238 motorboats/bancas plying various trades.

The CGDNM’s mission is to promote safety of life and property at sea, safeguard marine environment and its resources, enforce all applicable maritime laws within Northern Mindanao’s maritime jurisdiction, and conduct maritime security operations and other activities in support of the PCG’s mission within the area of responsibility.
