PCG: Two crew members onboard a distressed motor boat were rescued by elements of the Philippine Coast Guard last Saturday, August 30 at the vicinity waters of Cambari Island, Palawan.

The report was received by Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Araceli from a certain Mack Vargas, 45 years old and resident of Barangay Calandagan, informing that motorbanca Checha Alyssa was submerged between Mariquit Island and Camabri Island.

The boat was described to be colored blue and white and was loaded with 20 pieces of bamboo, 183 coconuts and four sacks of nipa leaves.

Immediately, CGSS Araceli, together with Bantay Dagat, proceeded to the said vicinity to conduct joint rescue operations.

Around 2:55 pm, Mbca Chesca Alyssa was spotted and rescued six nautical miles west of Barangay Calandagan, Palawan.

Initial investigation revealed that Mbca Chesca Alyssa departed at Barangay Osmena enroute to Barangay Araceli, Palawan when it encountered heavy rain, strong winds and big waves that caused the boat to take in water and subsequently half submerged.

The motor boat was safely towed around 4:10 pm to Barangay Calandagan together with the two rescued persons that were escorted to the health center of said barangay for medical assistance.

Both were found to be in good physical condition
