PCG. Coast Guard Station Tacloban personnel successfully rescued four (4) passengers onboard an unregistered motor banca at the vicinity waters 50 meters away from Tacloban City on March 5.
Reports reaching the Coast Guard Action Center in Manila disclosed that a security guard of the Philippine Ports Authority sighted the submerged motor banca at the vicinity waters near Tacloban Port.
Immediately, CGS Tacloban personnel together with Special Operations Unit – Eastern Visayas conducted search and rescue operation onboard PCG aluminum boat 113.
The team rescued the four (4) passengers namely:
Victoriano A. Espina | 61 years old (Operator) |
Susana F. Espina | 18 years old |
Darwin Mabutol | 25 years old |
Sherwin Robin | 21 years old |
Inquiry to the survivors revealed that the said unregistered motor banca departed Tacloban Port Seawall enroute to Brgy. San Antonio, Basey, Samar. Twenty (20) minutes after their departure, they were battered by big waves which caused the motor banca to go half-submerged.
Personnel of CGS Tacloban rendered necessary assistance to the survivors who were found to be in good physical condition.
