PCG: Two maritime incidents in Iloilo City were immediately acted upon by the Philippine Coast Guard last Saturday, April 9 which resulted to the safe disposition of the vessels and its crew.

The first incident involved motor boat Golden Light which encountered engine trouble at the vicinity waters of Nogas Island, Antique.

Upon receipt of said report from a certain Roque Dela Torre of Cargo Checker of Neptune Transport Inc., the personnel of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Iloilo immediately proceeded to the area and assisted in the towing of the boat to Parola Wharf.

On the same day, motor tanker Mary Queen of the Orient ran aground 20 meters away from light station Iloilo Jetty Red in Iloilo River.

Reports revealed that MTKR Mary Queen of the Orient departed Muelle Loney Wharf, Iloilo bound for Batangas when it tried to steer off the sailing path of M/V St. Emmanuel and M/V Weesam Express 3. The sudden maneuver caused the vessel to run aground on her port side.

CGS Iloilo immediately advised the master to constantly monitor the vessel traffic in the area, to take precautionary measures and to man their VHF radio at all times.

Meanwhile, the PCG advised the masters of motor boat Golden Light and MTKR Mary Queen of the Orient to file a marine protest and secure Certificates of Seaworthiness from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA)  prior to resuming their operations.
